The ACM Council unanimously approves renaming SIGMOD Innovations Award as
"SIGMOD Edgar F. Codd Innovations Award".
Ted Codd invented the relational
model and was fundamentally responsible for the growth of the field. He
passed away in April 2003 and SIGMOD decided to name its Innovations Award
in his name. You can read
