The SIGMOD Contributions Award is given for significant contributions to the field of database systems through research funding, education, and professional services. SIGMOD 2022 Contributions Award goes to Christian S. Jensen for extensive, high-quality service to the database research community, including as Editor-in-Chief of ACM TODS and the VLDB Journal for 12+ years.
Details: Christian S. Jensen is a Professor of Computer Science at Aalborg University, Denmark. He was a Professor at Aarhus University from 2010 to 2013, and he has worked a total of six years at University of Maryland, College Park; University of Arizona; and Google Inc., Mountain View. His research concerns data analytics and management with focus on temporal and spatio-temporal data. Christian is an ACM and an IEEE fellow, and he is a member of the Academia Europaea, the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, and the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences. He has received several awards for his research. He serves on the board of VILLUM FONDEN, a major private funder of Danish research in the natural and technical sciences, and as vice chair of the board of the Danish National Research Foundation, an independent public funding body with its own endowment. He chairs the scientific advisory board of the Norwegian Research Center for AI Innovation (NorwAI), he serves on the scientific advisory board of the Max Planck Institute for informatics, Saarbruecken, and he is president of the steering committee of the Swiss National Research Program on Big Data, NRP 75. He was Editor-in-Chief of ACM TODS from 2014 to 2020 and an Editor-in-Chief of The VLDB Journal from 2008 to 2014. He has co-organized multiple conferences and has served on approximately 200 program committees in a variety of roles, including as chair, co-chair, and vice chair.
