Abstract

The performance comparison of parallel join strategies is hard, particularly due to all different environments where these strategies are usually implemented. We propose in this work an architecture for comparing  joins in parallel (ARCOJP), that considers the main functionalities of the existing strategies, makes use of a local DBMS at each processing node and is well adapted to shared-nothing parallel machines. We show that ARCOJP is able to instantiate most of the known parallel join strategies. We give also preliminary practical results that enable comparisons and performance analysis for the instantiation of some chosen strategies.
