SSDBM 2001

Call for Papers

Scope

This international conference brings together scientific domain experts, database researchers, practitioners, and developers for the presentation and exchange of current research and on concepts, tools, and techniques for scientific and statistical database theory and applications.  The 13th SSDBM will provide a forum for original research contributions and practical system design, implementation, and evaluation.  The conference will also feature keynote talks, panel sessions, poster sessions, short tutorials and demonstrations of research prototypes and industrial systems.  We are planning panels on Genetic Engineering and Remote Sensing, and encourage proposals for other panels and short one-hour tutorials.  SSDBM – 2001 will continue the tradition of past SSDBM meetings in providing a stimulating environment to encourage discussion and the exchange of ideas.

Topics of Interest

Original papers on the following topics are invited: 

  • Conceptual models for scientific databases, 

  • Federated scientific databases, 

  • System architectures, 

  • Metadata management, 

  • Knowledge and data sharing via XML, 

  • Performance evaluation, 

  • Data and knowledge management, 

  • Scientific visualization, 

  • Data integration, 

  • Knowledge discovery and data mining, 

  • Multimedia data management, 

  • Scientific/statistical data warehouses and OLAP, 

  • Spatio-temporal data, and 

  • Experiment data management.

Short Papers and Student Papers

Short papers and student papers are also solicited.  If accepted these will be presented in special Poster Sessions.  Case studies of SSDBM applications are also invited.

Tutorial Papers

We encourage authors to submit tutorial papers dealing with advanced topics of interest to the SSDBM community.  Please contact Dr. Sean Wang  (xywang@gmu.edu) by e-mail to discuss your suggested topic.  

Demonstration Papers

Authors are encouraged to submit short papers describing research or industrial systems that, if accepted, would be demonstrated during the conference.  Demonstration papers would be presented as a poster paper together with the demonstration.  Please indicate the type of computer, operating system, and special software requirements needed for the demonstration.  Also indicate if you would be bringing your own specialized equipment.
