Return to Posters , the effects of broken plurals on the performance of information retrieval systems has not been examined. We propose a light stemmer that incorporates a broken plural recognition component, and evaluate it within the context of information retrieval. Our results show that identifying broken plurals and reducing them to their correct stems does result in a significant improvement in the performance of information retrieval systems. @inproceedings{1009123, author = {Abduelbaset Goweder and Massimo Poesio and Anne De Roeck}, title = {Broken plural detection for arabic information retrieval}, booktitle = {SIGIR '04: Proceedings of the 27th annual international conference on Research and development in information retrieval}, year = {2004}, isbn = {1-58113-881-4}, pages = {566--567}, location = {Sheffield, United Kingdom}, doi = {http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/1008992.1009123}, publisher = {ACM Press}, } ![]() ©2005 Association for Computing Machinery |
