Return to Schema and Ontology Integration

Abstract

Adopting and reusing outsourced data is becoming increasingly popular. We consider that the integration of outsourced data has two phases, namely relating schemas and data mapping. The former refers to relating entities and attributes between the source and the target schema. The latter refers to the mechanisms for the transformation of data. In this paper we discuss issues related to the data mapping phase. We introduce a set of mapping operators for both entities and attributes. A classification of possible mapping cases is presented. For each of the possible cases of mapping we also suggest a resolution method using the introduced mapping operators.
